Bio

Laura Jackson Johnston, Iowa Executive Vice President of Health Care Innovation and Business Development Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield B.S. Psychology, Iowa State University, 1990 Laura Jackson joined Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2002 and served as the senior vice president of human resources. In 2008 she was asked to lead the development of an expanded strategy to collaboratively build a sustainable health care system in Iowa and South Dakota. As a result of this work, she was appointed to executive vice president, Health Care Strategy and Policy. Jackson’s role was expanded again in 2013 and she currently serves as Executive Vice President, Health Care Innovation & Business Development. With over 25 years of experience, Jackson is responsible for sales, marketing, product development, public relations, provider networks, pharmacy, health and care management, wellness, and health care sustainability and strategy. The combination of responsibilities under Jackson’s leadership allows complete integration and collaboration to ensure holistic solutions are applied to meet customer needs. In addition to working with stakeholders to improve the delivery, financing, and outcomes within the health care system, Jackson also leads a team responsible for working with communities and various stakeholders to improve the health of the citizens in Iowa and South Dakota. Jackson received her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University, and a master's degree from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. She serves on various non-profit boards with emphasis on health care and health and well-being. She is a native Iowan and currently lives in Johnston with her family.
