Scott Stanzel is the Managing Vice President of Corporate Communications at Capital One, a position he has held since 2017. Stanzel leads the team that is responsible for all aspects of public relations strategy and execution for Capital One, including media relations, issues and reputation management, and proactive communications programs to advance the mission of the company.

Prior to joining Capital One, Stanzel was a communications leader for six years at Amazon, serving as Director of Worldwide Marketplace Communications. Prior to that role, Stanzel led operations communications for Amazon in North America and Japan. In this position, he guided the teams managing public relations for Amazon fulfillment centers, transportation, customer service, community relations, Prime Now, and Prime Air. Stanzel was also responsible for the internal communications strategy for Amazon's fulfillment and customer service organizations, as well as the Amazon fulfillment center public tours program. His previous roles at the company include leading the North American consumer public relations and managing public policy communications. Before joining Amazon, he led Stanzel Communications, a public relations firm based in Seattle, Washington.

From September 2006 until January 2009, Stanzel served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush. Stanzel also served President Bush as National Press Secretary for the Bush-Cheney ’04 campaign, as spokesman in the White House Office of Media Affairs from 2001 through 2003 and in various roles during the Bush for President campaign in 1999 and 2000.

In 2010, Stanzel served as campaign manager for Defeat 1098, the successful effort to stop the state income tax proposed in ballot initiative 1098 in Washington State. From September 2006 until January 2009, Stanzel served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush. Stanzel also served President Bush as National Press Secretary for the Bush-Cheney ’04 campaign, as spokesman in the White House Office of Media Affairs from 2001 through 2003 and in various roles during the Bush for President campaign in 1999 and 2000.

Stanzel served as a Senior Public Relations Manager for Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington, in 2005 and 2006. Earlier in his career, he worked on Capitol Hill and on the 1996 presidential campaign.

Over the years, Stanzel has been a frequent contributor to Fox News, CNN, POLITICO and other news outlets. He is a native of Sac City, Iowa, and a 1995 graduate of Iowa State University. Stanzel serves on the Iowa State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. He was previously chair of the Iowa State University Alumni Association Board of Directors and was a member the Greenlee School of Journalism Advisory Council. He is an avid triathlete and has completed three 140.6 mile Ironman triathlon races. He and his wife, Priscilla, have three daughters and live in McLean, Virginia.
