Hunt is a Java Virtual Machine engineer at Oracle, Inc. In this position he leads a variety of software engineering projects that involve enhancements to the Java Virtual Machine, the execution engine for Java applications and other popular software scripting programming languages. He has worked in the software industry for more than 25 years, the majority of which have been focused on software performance and making software execute faster. He is widely recognized for his Java performance expertise and is a frequent speaker at world-wide conferences on the subject of Java performance. He is also the lead author of Java Performance, a popular book among Java software engineers.

Hunt has held several positions at Oracle including the Architect of Java HotSpot Performance Engineering. He has also held the position of Architect of Performance Engineering at Salesforce.com and Java Architect at Sun Microsystems. He graduated from Iowa State University with honors in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a minor in Statistics. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Hunt is a member of the Iowa State University Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council and Iowa State University Order of the Knoll. He resides in Libertyville, Illinois with his wife Barb and son Boyd. His older son Beau is a graduate of Iowa State University and resides in Ankeny, Iowa with his wife Marie.
