Kent graduated from Iowa State University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Biology. He served as Senior Class President and was honored with the Wallace E. Barron Outstanding Senior Award. Kent holds a Master's degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government with a concentration in finance.
Kent is a Director of The Citigroup Private Bank in Boston where he provides global wealth management services to international entrepreneurs, private equity firms and several of the world's largest privately held companies. Prior to joining Citigroup, Kent worked at Robertson Stephens Investment Bank in Boston.
Kent is a fourteen-year veteran of the U.S. Foreign Service, where he completed diplomatic assignments at the U.S. Embassies in Italy, Russia, Georgia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Slovenia. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, he served as the first U.S. diplomat in the newly independent Republic of Georgia. He also participated in Dayton Peace talks while assigned to the former Yugoslavia from 1993-1998.
Currently, Kent serves on the Boards of the U.S.-Asia Institute, the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, and Newton Youth Soccer. Kent remains engaged in international affairs through his involvement with the Council on Emerging National Security Affairs (CENSA) and World Boston. In 2003, he represented the U.S. as an International Election Monitor in the Republic of Georgia's national elections, and he has been a featured commentator on international relations for National Public Radio, the Boston Globe, and Harvard University.
Kent is actively involved at Iowa State University as a member of the Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Advisory Council, the Political Science Advisory Board, Order of the Knoll and Alumni Ambassadors. In 2003, Kent was honored with Iowa State's Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.
Kent lives in Newton, Massachusetts with his wife, Kristen, and their two sons, Alex and Ryan.
