Bio

West Des Moines, Iowa Retired Administrator Iowa State University BS in English & Speech, Iowa State University, 1964 MS in English, University of Iowa, 1966 J D Beatty grew up in southwest Iowa and still shares management responsibilities for Beatty Farms, PTR. After graduating in English/Speech at ISU, he earned an MA with honors and ABD in English at the University of Iowa. His professional tenure spanned 32 years of full-time service as an ISU faculty member and administrator, two years as Presidential Chief of Staff for the University of Colorado System, and nine years of part-time service to ISU after returning to Iowa. He has been privileged to be involved in the decision to admit students without a declared major, to develop the learning communities initiative, to design the curriculum for the Emerging Leaders Academy, and to build an academic/professional culture for academic advisors and academic advising. Education has been the major focus of his life as well as his wife Jan's (three ISU degrees). Thus, they decided several years ago to pay forward opportunities for others who share their passion for education. The LAS Dean's Advisory Council is one of those opportunities.
